Maramures and its churches
Up in the north, Maramures county is filled with amazing centuries-old wooden Gothic churches, out of which the most famous is Barsana Monastery. There are dozens of Orthodox wooden churches through the hills and the mountains.
You can see the amazing landscapes aboard the Mocanita old steam train, and also enjoy one of the most famous cemeteries in the world - and the funniest of them all - the Merry Cemetery from Sapanta.

The Black Sea beaches
Romania has a coastline of almost 250 kilometers, with dozens ok sandy beaches. The most famous ones are in Mamaia, the Black Sea resort attracting tourists from all over the world since more than a half of century ago.
Another very popular destination for youngsters especially is Vama Veche, at the border with Bulgaria, while the beaches in Corbu, Vadu, Gura Portitei, Sfantu Gheorghe and Sulina - all north from Mamaia - are the most beautiful and wild.

Transylvania is literally filled with beautiful cities and citadels. From medieval fortified churches of Biertan and Viscri (where Prince Charles has a house), part of the UNESCO World Heritage List, to beautiful European cities such as Cluj-Napoca, Brasov, Sibiu, Alba Iulia, Oradea and Timisoara, the area is filled with beautiful places all year-round.
The Black Church in Brasov, the Grand Square in Sibiu, the Gothic St. Michael’s Church in Cluj-Napoca, Alba Carolina Citadel in Alba Iulia, and the Union Square in Timisoara are maybe the most famous of them all.

Bucharest
The capital of the country has so many beautiful places to see, from buildings to cafes, parks, and nice streets.
If we could choose only five destinations in Bucharest, those would be Victoriei Street, Romanian Athenaeum, the Old Center, Herastrau Park, and the most famous building, the gigantic Parliament Palace.

Danube Delta
The largest and best-preserved delta in Europe, the Danube Delta, has over 3,000 square kilometers, out of which the biggest part is in Romania. It is the first place in the country included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in 1991.
The delta is home of hundreds of bird species, as well as dozens of fresh water fish species, and also many mammals and plants too.

Transfagarasan
Transfagarasan is viewed by many as the most beautiful road in the world. It has over 150 kilometers, a maximum altitude of 2,042 meters at Balea Lake, and so many breathtaking views.
It crosses the Fagarasi Mountains in the Carpathians, from north to south, and apart from the mountains and the Balea Lake, you can see the Vidraru lake and dam, and also the medieval Poenari fortress, of which some say it has inspired Bram Stoker to write "Dracula".

The Carpathians - the Transylvanian Alps
Speaking of the Carpathians, these are some of the most spectacular mountains in Europe, the biggest part of them being in Romania. The highest peak is Moldoveanu, at 2,544 meters, and they cross the country from north to east, then south, and finally going west. The views are amazing - looking both up and down the mountains.
There are hundreds of hiking trails, and also an incredible wildlife in its centuries-old forests.

Painted monasteries
In the north-eastern part of Romania, you will find many painted monasteries, some of them having a history of centuries. Putna, Sucevita, Voronet are among the most famous ones, and eight of them have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage.
2. Maybe
Maybe the most beautiful town in Romania, Sinaia stays at the footsteps of the impressive Bucegi Mountains, surrounded by forests.
And while Bran Castle is the most famous in the country, the former home of the royal family in Sinaia, the Peles Castle, is the most beautiful of them. Its opening has been in 1883, and it still is a Neo-Renaissance masterpiece.

Sighisoara and its historical center
In the middle of Romania stands tall the old medieval town and citadel of Sighisoara, which has a history of over 800 years. The legend goes that the Transylvanian Saxons were the ones to settle here.
Its iconic landmark is the historical center, out of which the most impressive is the Clock Tower, built in 1556. Also, it is the birthplace of Vlad "Dracul" the Impaler, and the citadel is truly a perfect example of a well-preserved fortified medieval town.
